Arriving overland? Kabul International Airport (other entry points are not currently accepted for the e-Visa). If you plan to cross from Pakistan, Iran or Uzbekistan, apply at an embassy or consulate with a Letter of Invitation.

What you'll need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay, with two blank pages
  • Digital passport photo — recent, white background, no glasses (JPG)
  • Clear colour scan of your passport bio-data page
  • Your travel dates and arrival flight into Kabul
  • Accommodation details — your Afghan Guest booking confirmation works
  • Letter of Invitation from a licensed Afghan tour operator (recommended)
  • A card for the online fee

The application

  1. 1

    Check eligibility

Most nationalities are eligible. Some nationalities and residents of certain countries are excluded — check the portal before booking flights.

  2. 2

    Prepare documents

Passport valid 6+ months with blank pages, a recent passport photo (white background), a scan of your passport bio page, your itinerary and accommodation details. An Afghan Guest LOI can be attached.

  3. 3

    Apply on the portal

Create an account at the official portal, complete the form and upload documents.

  4. 4

    Pay the fee

Pay online by card. Fees are set by the consulate and can change.

  5. 5

    Receive your e-Visa

The approved visa arrives by email as a PDF. Print it and travel with it.

  6. 6

    Fly into Kabul

Present your passport and printed e-Visa on arrival at Kabul International Airport.

Tips from our Kabul team

  • • Use exactly the same spelling of your name as in your passport's machine-readable zone.
  • • Upload sharp, glare-free scans — blurry uploads are the most common reason for delays.
  • • Apply at least 2–3 weeks before departure, and don't buy non-refundable flights until your visa is issued.
  • • Print two copies of the e-Visa PDF; keep one separate from your passport.
  • • Only use the official portal. Third-party 'visa agent' websites charge extra and some are scams.
