Badakhshan

بدخشان

The Wakhan Corridor and the Pamir mountains

Remote, mountainous and spectacular. Badakhshan is the gateway to the Wakhan Corridor, Afghanistan's high-altitude finger reaching toward China, with Wakhi and Kyrgyz herding communities.

Best time to visit: June–September; the Wakhan is only accessible in summer.

Getting there: Domestic flights to Fayzabad when operating, or 2+ days by road. Wakhan trips need special permits — arranged by Afghan Guest.
